Hiroshi Watanabe

Dear Friends,
I would like to inform you about the shows Bonni Benrubi Gallery is hosting from October 6 to November 26, 2005 in New York.
The Main Gallery
LAURA MCPHEE : Kolkata
McPhee explores the rich and complex cultural heritage of India by capturing the disappearing legacy of a city on the threshold of modernization. Shifting political and cultural tides are given perspective in her work through the market places and domestic interiors of Kolkata. Her large-scale color images ultimately speak to incipient globalization, to the blending of history with contemporary life, and to the long and complex relationship between East and West.
The Red Room
HIROSHI WATANABE- Faces: Kabuki Players
Haunting portraits of traditional Japanese Kabuki actors play with Western imagination in this exhibition of work by Hiroshi Watanabe. Elaborate costumes and make-up heighten the psychology and drama of these images to otherworldly levels. Like his other bodies of work, however, these portraits also document their subjects in a way that is truthful, personal, and universally meaningful.
